7 most popular foods chosen by car drivers in Latvia

It’s not safe to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the car while driving, obviously. However, because there are a limited number of hours a day, despite the many more responsibilities, you are forced to multitask - to do several things at the same time. For example, when driving to work in the morning, you must not only be able to talk through your daily plans with family members but put your make-up on, drink your morning coffee, eat your breakfast, etc. So by the evening, feeling drained,  you drive back home while listening to your favorite song on the radio. You crave a snack, something delicious to grab along the way.

During a pandemic, we became even more accustomed to eating in our cars. Our beloved auto became our private office, our secret mini-restaurant with delicious, carefully selected food and a rolling landscape outside the window.

What foods do drivers (and their fellow passengers) love the most? Getify reveals the 7 most frequently ordered dishes or meals:

  • Kebab! The most popular, of course, are tasty kebabs. They come in different variations - meat or vegetarian. There is actually a wide choice of kebabs in the largest and smallest cities of Latvia and the preparation of this dish doesn’t take much time. Therefore: if you are thoroughly hungry, you can quickly get to this morsel first. And because kebabs are usually nicely compact, they can be quite convenient to enjoy while driving with all the other folks eating kebabs.

  • The Burger. These representatives of American cuisine have also won our hearts and stomachs in Europe. Eating a burger at the wheel might seem like an impossible mission (all of us have at least once experienced a juicy burger falling completely apart. Turns out it’s best to handle such a nasty challenge while safely parked next to the salad eaters.

  • French fries with additives (nuggets and cheese balls). Who doesn't like deep-fried potatoes? Loved by both adults and children, despite the risk of greasy fingers getting mayonnaise or ketchup on nice clothes. Great food for children though - there will be a moment of silence in the car.

  • Pastries! Cakes and various vegan delicacies. Yes, sugar will save the world by making it go round and round! With a delicious cup of coffee, you need something sticky sweet, and delicious. Even when there is no time to eat or everything is bad, a muffin or cake will open your heart and make you happy, no?

  • Sushi. The choice is quite wide, because sushi can wrap anything that swims or crawls, and even more things that don’t move at all. Sushi can be prepared quickly, received, and eaten quickly, and the feeling of satiety lasts for several hours. It is better to use your fingers instead of chopsticks alone.

  • Pizza. It’s enough with food where something is wrapped inside, right? With pizzas it's easy, all the contents are as visible as the palm of your hand. Go ahead, order what you want and then eat what you ordered. You can’t lose with pizza! The box is big, but the smudging is relatively small, just think of dirty fingers.

  • Salad and poke bowls! A very healthy choice, but how do you consume these products while driving? Not the most ideal driving food, unless the driver is fed by a passenger. Then again, maybe you shouldn't even try to eat while driving? Salad and poke bowls should be eaten peacefully, parked safely in a beautiful place.

Getify reminds you - this was written to entertain! So, please be responsible for yourself and others! Don't challenge yourself or your food while driving. It may sound exciting to cover yourself head to toe with drips of ketchup or soy sauce while eating your favorite dish and steering with your knees, but it's truly not safe to be eating while driving. Even if you are an experienced rally driver, holding food in one hand while driving the other is dangerous. This reduces the ability to maneuver the car and can be fatal in the event of a sudden obstacle.

Food tastes better when eaten slowly!
